The Quirky Streets of Taipei

I enjoyed walking around the streets of Taipei as I gazed through the buildings and admired the boulevard of quirky buys.

If it's your first time in Taipei, taking a map with you would be really handy. You may get a hold of this at the airport. It even has recommended tourist spots and landmarks.

The easiest and most convenient way to get around would be by the MRT or train. It can be quite pricey if you pay each time you ride so I would recommend buying the 2 day pass for 310 NT for an unlimited train pass and bus ride. You may also opt for the 1 day pass for 150 NT but with no bus ride. You will also be given a booklet that has tourist spot recommendations and coupons.

Longshan Temple
There are also lots of temples around Taipei for place of worship, however tourists also frequent the place to admire the structure and observe the rituals.

Bopiliao Old Street

Not sure what the writing means but this is actually part of the exhibit

An iconic street you must also visit near Longshan temple is the Bopiliao Old Street. You can admire the ancient infrastructure, art pieces and exhibits as you walk around the old streets. You will surely learn a lot about the history of Taipei City.

If you're looking for a place to shop and unwind after a tiring day then you must visit the Ximending District. Expect lots of walking and shopping. Most of the bars and restaurants are located at the second floor so be keen on the signage posted around.

Red House

Just across the Ximen exit you'll find the Red House where they usually hold exhibits. There are also quirky shops inside that sell unusual and random items such as leathers, installation accessories, bags, plants, and many more. Stalls are also set-up outside that sell similar items.

A quirky bar we fancied was called Ranking Zoo, which is located at the second floor of some shop.

We were mostly impressed with the aesthetics of the place. We found it entertaining and quite unique. It is the vibe of the place that grew on to us.

If you're simply looking for a place to relax and enjoy a bottle, or two, maybe three of craft beers then don't miss out on Ranking Zoo.

Candied Fruits

I really enjoyed walking around the Shilin Night Market. Here you will find numerous eclectic items. They sell almost anything and everything you can think of! From toys, to monopods, to electronic gadgets, your choices are endless! Be sure to ask for a bargain price when making a purchase.

Shilin night market is also known for their street food! Can you brave trying out their delicacies?

Make up Whisky liquid nitrogen ice cream
There's nothing like watching your basic liquid turn into creamy ice cream. Just located along the streets of Shilin, you will find Cool N2, an ice cream parlor that uses liquid nitrogen to make ice cream. I loved the unique flavours they offered as much as I loved watching my ice cream come about.

On our way to the train station, we stumbled upon a playground! A place where kids, and kids at heart, can play and enjoy.

You won't see lots of cars in Taipei, well for one, their public transportation is very efficient. They even have bikes for public use to help you get around. Just be sure to return it after.

Be sure to check out the attractions you must visit when in Taipei:

Travel Tips:

Take one of those maps/ tour brochures at the airport to guide you around the city. Be sure it has the MRT route as well.

Book a hotel which is walking distance from the train so that you can easily get by.

Bring walking shoes and expect LOTS of walking!
